This project currently being completed by Chorus involves the refurbishment of this world famous hotel. H&C Demolition carried out structural demolition works to enable the remodelling of suites on the southern elevation of the hotel. The south façade is hung from a series of lattice trusses located in a void between the 7th and 8th floors. The nature of this structure increased the complexity of the demolition required as the works involved the removal of the walls which provided support for the lattice trusses.
The project also involved the removal of existing load bearing masonry walls in addition to the removal of parts of the existing floor slab. During the works the building was required to be back propped to maintain a structural load path.
All demolition materials were required to be continually removed from site to avoid overloading existing concrete floors. All structures affected by the removal of the walls and floors required temporary support and restraint during the demolition process.| Duration: | 15 weeks |
