The Environment & Sustainability



H & C Demolition (GB) Limited recognises the impact construction operations have on the environment and the importance of planning in advance to minimise impact and improve sustainability.

To minimise our impact on the environment, both local and universal, our methods of work are selected to take into consideration environmental issues, including, but not limited to, noise and vibration minimisation, dust suppression techniques, emission levels, spillages and traffic management.

The management and disposal of arisings from our works activities and control of our works follows the ethos of sustainability (Sustainable Development) that is:

‘development which meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’



H & C Demolition’s main contribution to sustainability is our control of waste hierarchy:
  • Reuse
  • Recycle
  • Landfill (last resort)

In accordance with the Site Waste Management Plan Regulations 2008, Site Waste Management Plans are generated for projects in excess of £300,000.  Waste records are maintained for other projects outside the scope of the regulations.  It is our aim to recycle and / or reclaim at least 85 – 90 % of material from our demolition activities.

By recycling as much as possible on site we can also reduce the level and impact of site traffic on the local community as well as the overall ‘carbon footprint’ of the project.

All waste is removed from site is accompanied by appropriate documentation as required by statutory legislation.  Controlled waste is accompanied by a Controlled Waste Transfer Note, as required by the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Section 34.  Hazardous waste is accompanied by a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note, as required by the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005.

If hazardous and toxic materials are present on site, specialist knowledge is sought from environmental consultants and carriers.


We are currently in the process of implementing an Environmental Management System in accordance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 14001:2004.
